Thailand to reduce troops in East Timor
The Thai military will reduce its troop commitment to the United Nations peacekeeping forces in East Timor, as the country heads toward independence.
Thailand's deputy Defence Minister, Yuthasak Sasiprapha, says the number of Thai troops may be cut from a battalion to a few companies, but the exact number has not yet decided.
Narong Yuthawong, the military's supreme commander, will start a two-day visit to East Timor's capital Dili to visit soldiers and discuss troop reductions with U-N representatives.
Thailand currently has 744 troops in East Timor.
