The United States attack on Osama bin Laden to continue

Al-Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan's Tora Bora region are facing an ultimatum to surrender or die, as US officials gave their strongest indication yet that top terror suspect Osama bin Laden is still in the area.

Anti-Taliban commanders leading the assault on the Tora Bora cave complex say the foreign fighters want to surrender but the Pentagon has expressed skepticism at the claim saying warplanes will press on with the assault.

US intelligence services say indications bin Laden and members of his inner circle are in Tora Bora came when a 7.5-tonne bomb was dropped on a cave triggering a series of panicked radio and satellite calls among al-Qaeda members.

U-S Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, says the Pentagon hasn't received any reports that a surrender is imminent.

We all know that a wounded animal can be dangerous, and so too the Taliban and al-Qaeda can hide in the mountains. They can hide in caves and indeed they can hide in cities and I know they are.
