Burma's NLD hoping for change of stance from Junta after "independence
Burma's pro-democracy party says the anniversary of Burma's independence next month could herald a significant improvement in relations between the party and the ruling military junta.
Uy Lwin, a central executive committee member of the National League for Democracy says he anticipates prisoner releases or even the start of a more substantive dialogue between the regime and the NLD. He says United Nations special envoy, Razali Ismail, had given "rather encouraging" signs when he visited Burma last month on a visit to broker a political reconciliation.
On Independence Day, Burma, marks its liberation from British colonial rule in 1948 and is traditionally a day when authorities grant amnesties.
