Cambodia adopts 2002 budget law
The Cambodian government has adopted a budget law for 2002, allocating 27 percent of the total budget to military and security expenditures.
The move represents a slight reduction from 29.5 percent this year, continuing a downward trend.
The budget for 2002 totals about 690 million US dollars, an increase on the current budget.
Opposition leader Sam Rainsy has criticised the government of Prime Minister Hun Sen for not making greater efforts to tackle poverty.
His party has also criticised the government's reliance on income from casinos which is expected to nearly double.
The budget law also shows a large expected increase in revenue from taxes on lotteries.
