Burma railway tribute arrives in Britain
A 30-metre section of the Thai-Burma railway has arrived in Britain to become a memorial to the thousands of allied prisoners who died building it during World War Two.
The sleepers and track from the so-called Railway of Death were collected by a Royal Navy frigate in Thailand and unloaded at Devonport Naval Base in Plymouth.
The track will be taken to Staffordshire where it will be laid at the National Memorial Arboretum as a tribute to the 16-thousand British, Australian and Allied prisoners of war who lost their lives building the 415-kilometre railway.
The memorial is due to be opened in August, when it's expected several Australian survivors will attend a ceremony.
