Some progress in getting food aid to Afghanistan's people

The Director of the World Food Program is claiming success in the fight to stop millions of people starving to death in Afghanistan.

The W-F-P has delivered 40-thousand tonnes of food into Afghanistan since the start of winter.

But the Program's Director, Catherina Bertini says there's more work to be done although the immediate crisis has been averted.

We've succeeded in averting a famine. We know there are still people desperately hungry and we know there's still people mal nourished and there may still people who will not live and have not lived through the winter because of lack of food and because of disease and cold and um other attacks on their bodies. But we do know that the food that is brought in has literally kept millions of people alive.
