Five Muslim rebels dead in Jammu and Kashmir

Five Muslim rebels have been killed in gun battles with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, where another person was injured as India and Pakistan exchanged fire across their volatile border.

They say two militants belonging to pro-Pakistan Hizbul Mujahideen were killed near the village of Chakras in Udhampur district.

Police said an unidentified separatist was also killed in a shootout in the same area.

Elsewhere two militants were killed in a gunbattle in Rajouri district.

Nearly a dozen militant groups are fighting India's rule in the country's only Muslim majority state.
