Lawyer plans class acrion over PNG detainess in Australia
An Australian lawyer is planning a class action over a group of asylum seekers being held in Papua New Guinea, who have have contracted malaria.
The asylum seekers are being held in a detention centre on P-N-G's Manus Island after the Australian Government refused to let them into the country.
Lawyer, Eric Vadarlis says a group of 15 asylum seekers have now contracted the tropical disease.
The action, which will be lodged in the Federal Court, will seek to have the P-N-G asylum seekers immediately removed from the detention centre. The lawyers will allege the government breached its duty of care and was negligent towards the asylum seekers. But the Australian Government says doctors caring for the detainees at the facility have confirmed there are no cases of malaria.
