Russian President urges North Korea to pursue dialogue with South
Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has urged North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Il, to pursue dialogue with the rival South in a letter to congratulate him on his 60th birthday. In a report on Pyongyang's central radio station, Mr Putin also expressed hope that North Korea's efforts to improve social and economic conditions bear fruit.
The A-F-P Newsagency reported Moscow has shown a keen interest in linking a railway from the two Koreas in order to revive the economy in the under-developed Russian Far East.
The Russian President also reportedly said he supported dialogue and voluntary rapprochement between the two countries on the basis of lasting peace and security.
