People smuggling conference ends in Bali
Ministers and officials from 37 countries have ended a two-day regional conference on combating people-smuggling -- the world's first such meeting -- and organisers say it's been a success.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda says the meeting of delegates from Asia-Pacific and Middle Eastern nations has been extremely useful and productive.
He says delegates above all have agreed that eradicating the criminal trade should and could only be done in a comnprehensive end coordinated manner.
People-smuggling in Asia mainly involves the movement of people from Middle Eastern and South Asian nations into Australia, usually through Indonesia.
Hundreds have drowned on the perilous sea route, including about 350 people -- mainly Iraqis -- last October.
