Vietnam communists can be capitalists: first deputy PM Vietnam's Communist Party has signalled an intention to drop a long-time ban on party members engaging in private enterprise. It was only last April that the ban on private enterprise for party members was renewed at the Vietnamese Communist Party's five-yearly congress. Now, less than a year later, Vietnam's deputy Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, has told a state run newspaper that for the time being members of the Communist Party -- who are engaged in private enterprise -- will still be regarded as party members. He said it was a very complex and practical issue that was currently under review. Ordinary Vietnamese have been increasingly critical of party leaders, alleging that they are already engaged in private enterprise through their spouses and other family members. 17/03/2002 14:02:38 | ABC Radio Australia News
