Coup must not derail Burma's reconciliation process says UN envoy
A United Nations official says a recent coup attempt in Burma must not be allowed to derail reconciliation talks between the ruling military and pro-democracy opposition.
U-N special envoy, Razali Ismail, says that whatever is happening, all parties must remain committed to continue with national reconciliation.
Burma's military regime says they asked the envoy to postpone his planned visit to Rangoon this week because of the coup attempt.
Earlier this month, the military government said it had scuttled a coup plot mounted by the family of former dictator, Ne Win, who ruled the country until 1988.
The son-in-law and three grandsons of the 92-year-old autocrat were arrested while Ne Win and his daughter remain under heavy guard at their lakeside residence in Rangoon.
