Japan suffers high jobless rate, slower output growth
Official data shows that Japan remains in the grip of high unemployment, deflation and depressed industrial production.
Data from the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications shows that Japan's jobless rate remained unchanged at 5.3 percent in February.
Other figures showed a smaller than expected 1.3 percent rise in industrial production in February and consumer prices in the month fell 1.6 percent from a year earlier in the 30th consecutive month of deflation.
The world's second biggest economy suffered three straight quarters of economic decline from April last year and another fall is expected in the three months to March.
Despite the figures, a senior government official predicted the imminent end of the recession with the economy expected to pick up in the quarter starting on Monday.
