Pakistani authorities detain pilots suspected of terrorist links

Pakistani authorities say they have detained five Sudanese trainee pilots suspected of links with the al-Qaeda network of alleged terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden.

The AFP news agency says police and intelligence officials picked up the Sudanese at a private flying club, to check possible al-Qaeda connections.

Police say nine foreigners, mostly Arabs, had been admitted for pilot training at the flying club in the northwestern city of Peshawar.

They say one of the Sudanese had originally signed up for training in July last year but left after the September 11th attacks in the United States when most foreigners left the country.
