Some rare good news in Japan's troubled economy

Japanese business confidence in March stopped sliding for the first time in 15 months on hopes of a rebound in profits and sales, but spirits remained flat due to ongoing economic fears, a survey showed Monday.

A major business survey in Japan suggests the country's economic decline might be bottoming out.

Tokyo correspondent Mark Simkin has the details.

The widely-watched Tankan survey shows that business sentiment among Japanese manufacturers was unchanged in tha March quarter. That reflects a recovery in the American economy and rises in Japanese stock prices. The survey result ends a year long slide in confidence and suggests that the worst may be over for the Japanese economy.Even so most economists believe that any recovery in the world's second largest economy will be patchy.
