South Korean envoy arrives in North, vowing to curb tensions
A South Korean envoy has arrived in North Korea to persuade Pyongyang to revive stalled diplomacy and improve peace on the divided Korean peninsula.
North Korea's official news agency says Lim Dong-won, the special envoy of South Korea's President Kim Dae-jung, was met by a senior North Korean official from the country's peace committee.
It gave no other details.
Mr Lim is on a three-day visit that will be the first public contact between the two sides since November.
Before leaving South Korea's capital, Seoul, he said his visit was to prevent the build-up of tensions on the Korean peninsula and re-open the channels between North and South Korea.
Mr Lim, who will carry a personal message from Kim Dae-jung to North Korea's leader Kim Jong-il, said he and his hosts will "put their heads together" to work out ways to shore up peace and revive a series of lapsed North-South co-operation projects.
