Singapore to ease its tough censorship laws
Singapore has signalled it may ease its tough censorship laws to adapt to rapid progress in information technology, announcing a thorough review for the first time in 10 years.
Acting Minister of Information, Communication and the Arts, David Lim, has appointed a 22-member committee to review existing policies and recommend changes, with input from the Singapore public.
Mr Lim says that with greater public access to information technology, it was time that the burden of censorship shift more from the state towards parents and adults.
He said the committee will also look into censorship issues relating to the broadcast media, films, videos, publications, audio materials, arts and the Internet.
