At least one dead in more violence in western India

Fresh communal violence has been reported in the west Indian state of Gujarat, with at least one person shot dead and 30 injured in gun battles with police.

Simi Chakrabarti reports from New Delhi.

More violence erupted in Gujarat as rioting mobs tried to enter some places of worship. None however were destroyed or desecrated. But, a number of shanty homes and houses were burnt overnight by the rampaging crowd. Police lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the crowd before opening fire that left one person dead. More than 30 people have died since Sunday as Hindus and Muslims continue to clash with one another.
