Thousands of Shiite Muslims gather to mourn deaths in Pakistan
In central Pakistan, thousands of minority Shiite Muslims have gathered under tight security to mourn the deaths of 12 people killed in a bomb attack at a religious meeting.
Hundreds of heavily armed police have been deployed in the remote city of Bhakkar in central Punjab province, the scene of a massive blast which ripped through a congregation of 10,000 Shiites. A partial strike was also being staged in city as local traders closed their businesses as a mark of respect for the victims.
The bomb detonated just before midnight on Thursday in an area segregated for women and children at a gathering to mourn the death of the Prophet Mohammad's grandson, Imam Hussain. Police say they are investigating the bomb attack, but to date no arrests have been made.
