Senior FUNCINPEC figure quits party post in Cambodia

A senior member of Cambodia's royalist FUNCINPEC party has quit in a bitter internal row over the party's poor showing in local elections earlier this year.

Interior Minister You Hockry said he was 'stepping down' after FUNCINPEC president Prince Norodom Ranariddh threatened to sack him.

FUNCINPEC's poor electoral performance has been partly blamed on internal corruption and nepotism,

And correspondents say You Hockry has been singled out by party members seeking to re-build before next year's general election.
