East Timor prosecutors file 11 indictments over massacres

Prosecutors in East Timor have filed indictments against 11 people accused of carrying out massacres in the isolated enclave of Oecussi two years ago.

The alleged crimes took place between April and October 1999, either side of the former Indonesian province's overwhelming vote for independence.

Two of the accused are Indonesian army sergeants and nine are members of a pro-Indonesian militia.

But only one of them is in custody; the rest are still at large, believed to be in Indonesia.
