Brother of Sri Lankan President rejoins her party
Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga's estranged brother, Anura Bandaranaike, has defected from the main opposition party, to rejoin her party ahead of a general election.
Ms Kumaratunga is facing an internal revolt in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and mass defections which prompted her to sack the parliament five years ahead of schedule and call snap polls for December.
Bandaranaike says his sister asked for his help in a time of "crisis".
With news of Bandaranaike's return, former Tourism and Sports Minister Lakshman Kiriella announced his defection from the SLFP to the UNP following 10 other ruling party stalwarts who crossed last week.
