Indonesian prosecutors name two ministers in funds scandal

Indonesian prosecutors have summoned two former ministers for questioning over more than five million dollars in missing state agency funds.

Officials from the Indonesian attorney-general's office questioned retired General Wiranto, a former defence minister and military chief and Akbar Tanjung, a former state secretary, who is currently the speaker of parliament.

Both men held office during the presidency of B.J. Habibie.

The case emerged three weeks ago when Rahardi Ramelan, chief of the national logistics agency Bulog, said the money had been transferred to "certain officials".

He alleges that four million dollars destined for food aid was channelled through Mr Tanjung in March 1999, while in the same year one-million dollars was channelled through General Wiranto.
