W-T-O set to approve China's entry
Ministers of the 142-member World Trade Organization are set to approve China's entry into the world trade body as they start their second day at the fourth WTO ministerial meeting in Qatar in an attempt to launch a new round of trade liberalization talks.
The approval, which will have come after 15 years of arduous negotiations, is expected to make it significantly easier for other nations to invest in and trade with China.
Formal procedures for the entry are expected to be complete by the end of this year.
China spent the last 15 years trying first to join the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, the world trade body's predecessor, and then the WTO. Taiwan's entry into the WTO is expected to be endorsed on Sunday, marking the first time both Beijing and Taipei become full members of an international body.
