Washington reviews Cambodia adoption program
Washington is reviewing its Cambodian adoption program following revealations of fraud and child trafficking.
Visas for seven Cambodian children about to depart for the U-S with their adoptive parents have been cancelled following the discovery that a local agency was offering children for adoption overseas without the permisson of the birth parents.
American parents have been adopting up to 100 Cambodian children a month at a cost of up to sixty thousand dollars per child.
The Deputy Chief of Mission to the US embassy in Phnom Penh Alex Arrizu says U-S authorities will be examining each case individually because of the concerns that baby traffickers are working in the adoption industry.
There is some evidence of trafficking in humans quite frankly, that's a rather broad and loose description but it can entail the selling of children for profit, which is clearly illegal, unethical and immoral.
