Burma's military regime frees five opposition members

Burma's military government says it has freed five more opposition members, including a first cousin of Democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

The releases, the first of 2002, come amid ongoing secretive reconciliation talks between the opposition and the military.

Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy Party won general elections in 1990 but has never been allowed to take power.

Suu Kyi has been under house arrest since September, 2000 when she attempted to travel outside Rangoon in defiance of official restrictions.
