Afghan interim government could take power in about two weeks
Rival Afghan groups have finalized the terms of an historic UN-sponsored power-sharing deal in Bonn and named royalist ethnic Pashtun tribal leader Hamid Karzai the head of a six-month interim government.
The four groups agreed to a list of 29 people to serve in the interim government, the accord is due to be signed soon and the interim government will take over the running of Afghanistan on December the 22nd.
Delegates have been locked in intense negotiations since November the 27th and have already agreed to a UN blueprint for a post-Taliban Afghanistan that maps out a two-phase two-year transitional authority leading to general elections.
In Afghanistan, some 1,000 Afghan militia closed in for the second day on the sprawling Tora Bora cave complex in eastern Afghanistan, where terrorist leader, Osama bin Laden may be hiding with hundreds of supporters.
US warplanes have been hammering at the area south of Jalalabad in recent days and local officials say an airstrike early Monday may have devastated the leadership ranks of bin Laden's al-Qaeda.
