Authorities prepare case against Taiwanese trawlers
The Australian Fisheries Management Authority says evidence is being prepared for court cases against two Taiwanese trawlers found allegedly fishing in Australian waters.
The navy escorted the vessels to Darwin at the weekend, after finding them on the eastern side of the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The authority's Geoff Rohan says the trawler skippers are expected to be charged with fishing in the Australian Fishing Zone without a licence, or being in the zone without a reasonable excuse.
I understand the owners, or owner-representatives, have agreed to fly out from Taiwan to organise their side of things. We're quite happy with that because that means we have people to talk to, over this matter.
