Al Qaeda fighters surrounded on Tora Bora ridge
Afghan forces have surrounded al-Qaeda fighters on a mountain ridge in eastern Afghanistan, as U-S warplanes step up bombing raids on hardline followers of Osama bin Laden.
American and British special forces are co-ordinating sustained air-strikes on a set of caves that have been under siege for the past ten days.
It's believed there are about 100 al-Qaeda fighters surrounded on one ridge close to a network of caves and tunnels under the Tora Bora mountain.
Other al-Qaeda fighters have been forced to retreat further away from their mountain hideouts.
However Afghan forces says there has been no sign of Osama bin Laden although they have not discounted the possbility that he is still in the region.
Earlier, the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press reported that bin Laden had left Bora Tora for a new unknown hiding place.
