Heavy fighting in Afghanistans battle of the caves
Afghan forces and al-Qaeda fighters are locked in heavy combat around the Tora Bora mountain .
American and British special forces are co-ordinating sustained air-strikes on a set of caves that have been under siege for the past ten days.
There are fears that Osama bin Laden or his lieutenants may slip across the frontier to Pakistan government despite a huge surveillance operation at the border area nearest Tora Bora in eastern Afghanistan.
US and Pakistani officials are coordinating on border security, exchanging information and intelligence from sources in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
But officials concede it is not possible to completely seal the border.
