New Timor Sea gas deal
After months of delays, the oil and gas producer Phillips Petroleum has reached an agreement with East Timor on Timor Sea gas resources.
In July, Phillips and its co-venture partners indefinitely delayed its plan to build a gas pipeline from the Bayu-Undan gas field to Darwin, citing concerns with East Timor's tax regime.
But in a statement released today, the company says East Timor's Council of Ministers has offered a tax package which will allow the gas development to go ahead.
A Phillips spokesman says the company is waiting on Australia to ratify the agreement with East Timor.
The project is worth one-point-five billion dollars.
