Landmine clearance major focus of international donor conference

The clearing of land mines in Afghanistan will be the major focus of the second and final day of an international conference on the reconstruction of the war-shattered country.

Mark Simkin reports, on the conference being held in Tokyo:

"It's estimated there are nearly 10-million land mines in Afganistan and the Red Cross believes 10 people are killed or maimed by the devices each day. Experts say it will cost more than 500-million US dollars to clear the mines. Today the countries that have gathered in Tokyo will discuss ways of speeding up and funding the mine clearing effort. This afternoon the co-chairs of the meeting will also announce the total amount of aid that has been promised to rebuild the war torn nation.
