FBI questions ex-Taliban deputy defence minister
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation is questioning ex-Taliban deputy defence minister, Mullah Mohamad Fazil, as it seeks Taliban head Mullah Mohammad Omar. An FBI team was interrogating Fazil in Kandahar in southern Afghanistan, the former stronghold of the radical Islamic Taliban movement. . A spokesman said the FBI team wanted information on the whereabouts of the Taliban's spiritual leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, as well as Saudi-born militant Osama bin Laden, leader of the al Qaeda network and the main focus of U.S. operations in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the new Afghan cabinet led by Hamid Karzai has held its first meeting in the capital, Kabul, to discuss the mammoth task of reconstructing the stricken nation.
All 29 of Karzai's ministers -- including two women -- were present at the meeting in the presidential palace of the power-sharing government. The meeting was held as hundreds of people staged a pro-government march through the streets of the city, welcoming Karzai's new administration and calling for jobs.
