Thailand wants to set date for deporting illegal workers
Thailand wants to set a date for deporting illegal Burmese workers, during two days of bilateral talks.
The Thai foreign minister Surakiart Sathirathai will host talks with his Burmese counterpart Win Aung at the beach resort of Phuket, to discuss in detail the repatriation of illegal workers and ethnic Burmese minorities.
A holding centre for the first workers to be sent home is being set up.
Over half a million Burmese workers have registered with the Thai authorities, some of whom were supporters of Karen tribes-people who are resisting Burmese military rule.
Bilateral issues to be discussed include fisheries and the fight against illicit drugs.
