Indonesia, Thailand agree to strengthen cooperation against terrorism
Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to strengthen intelligence cooperation to fight terrorism. President Megawati Sukarnoputri, speaking after talks with visiting Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, said Southeast Asia should make concerted efforts to battle terrorism in the region. Indonesian officials have previously alleged that rebels of the Free Aceh Movement have received arms shipments from Thailand. American Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz said earlier this month that Muslim terrorists could link up with Islamic militants fighting Christians on Indonesia's Sulawesi island and in Maluku. President Megawati said she and Prime Minister Thaksin also discussed sea boundaries.
Indonesian authorities have arrested scores of Thai fisherman in the past year for illegal fishing.
