Vietnamese dissident placed under house arrest
A leading Vietnamese dissident has been placed under house arrest after reportedly trying to expose territorial concessions made in recent border agreements with China.
Paris-based press watchdog, Reporters Without Borders says journalist Bui Minh Quoc was placed under administrative surveillance in his hometown of Dalat in the central highlands.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh declined to specify the grounds for the detention order.
However, the press watchdog says Quoc was arrested in Hanoi after more than a month on Vietnam's border with China collecting testimony and photographs to expose territorial concessions which dissidents charge Hanoi made to Beijing in a 1999 pact.
