Clinton warns politicians to keep out of China's reunification proces

Former United States President Bill Clinton says foreign politicians should keep out of the reunification process of Taiwan with mainland China, if it's to remain peaceful.

Mr Clinton was reportedly paid more than 300-thousand dollars to address the World Congress on the Peaceful Reunification of China and World Peace in the Australian city of Sydney.

Joanna Ball reports.

Mr Clinton told delegates from all over the world that the economic and social interaction between China and Taiwan should just be allowed to happen over time with no interference by politicians. "POLITICIANS SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO MAKE DISCUSSIONS THAT WILL INTERRUPT WHAT IS CLEARLY A PEACEFUL AND MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL THING." Outside the conference there were angry scenes as Australian Taiwanese protestors clashed with Pro China Supporters, who walked through the crowd carrying a banner which read "destroy Taiwaneses Independence - reunify China".
