Jiang hails Bush's visit
Chinese President, Jiang Zemin, has hailed the visit by American counterpart, George W. Bush, as "fruitful and substantial", saying the two sides achieved consensus on several important issues. But key officials conceded the Taiwan question remained a thorny issue.
Mr Jiang reiterated China's view that the island should be peacefully reunified with the mainland.
He said Mr Bush had also stated that the US would adhere to the "one China" policy.
The China Daily reported the two sides had agreed to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and strive to enrich the Sino-US constructive relationship of cooperation.
The Xinhua newsagency reported the leaders had also agreed to increase cooperation in the international anti-terror campaign.
They also decided to reinforce high-level cooperation in several areas, including the economy and trade, energy, science and technology, environmental protection and AIDS prevention.
In addition, agreement was reached to convene three joint meetings this year on economy, trade, and science and technology.
