Australia positive about tripartite talks in Bali

Australia says three-way talks with Indonesia and East Timor should become a permanent part of regional diplomacy.

The Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, says the first trilateral meeting, underway in Bali , could move beyond past differences.

There's a history there but there's a need for cooperation. Indonesia needs a stable and prosperous east Timor we need a prosperous and stable east Timor and we can explore together ways to help east Timor. We can work through with East Timor any problems they may have which relate to Indonesia and Australia. So I think it's very sensible thing to do .. a very big step forward in regional diplomacy
