Pakistan police search for body of US journalist
The United States is increasing pressure on Pakistan to extradite the confessed abductor of American reporter Daniel Pearl.
The US ambassador in Islamabad, Wendy Chamberlin, held talks with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf at which she raised the issue of extraditing Sheikh Omar.
Omar, a British-born Islamic militant, admitted in court on February 14 that he had masterminded Pearl's abduction. He also told the court that the reporter was dead.
An anti-terrorist court has ordered Omar to be held in police custody for a further 14 days to give investigators more time to find Pearl's body and further evidence in his beheading.
