A new count ordered of Timor refugees

About 50 state auditors have been deployed in Indonesia's West Timor to try to establish the exact number of East Timorese refugees still in camps there despite Jakarta's decision to halt aid to them.

The provincial office of the Finance and Development Supervising Body, says the team of provincial and national audit officials have started work in the Belu border district.

In 1999 an estimated 250,000-270,000 people either fled or were forced over the border, Indonesian officials estimate the number still in West Timor at around 128,000.
