Russia and Vietnam vow to boost ties
Former Cold War allies Russia and Vietnam have vowed to broaden their new strategic partnership,
This is despite Moscow's imminent pullout from a key military base in southern Vietnam.
Following a landmark visit just over a year ago by President Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister, Mikhail Kasyanov, says Moscow wants to boost trade with Vietnam and is willing to supply its Soviet-equipped army with more weapons.
His Vietnamese counterpart Phan Van Khai, said after their talks in Hanoi that they had discussed ways to boost two-way trade to around two-Billion dollars annually in the next few years.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of six agreements, including a Russian credit of 200-million dollars two hydropower plants.
Meanwhile, Russia says it will complete its withdrawal from the key naval and airbase at Cam Ranh Bay in southern Vietnam by July.
