Red Cross officials from North Korea arrive in Beijing
Red Cross officials from North Korea have arrived in Beijing to resume talks with Japanese counterparts on the issue of Japanese people Tokyo believes were kidnapped by North Korea.
Japan accuses North Korea of kidnapping Japanese people to train as spies or to teach agents the Japanese language and customs.
North Korea denies the accusation.
However, the resumption of the Red Cross talks after a gap of more than two years is one of several signs the North wants to resume diplomatic contacts with its neighbours. Earlier this month a South Korea special envoy visited the North and the two sides agreed to revive reunions of families divided since the 1950-53 Korean War.
On Sunday, 100 elderly people from each side will travel to the other for three days.
