Allegations of vote rigging in Pakistan's presidential election
Allegations of vote-rigging and fraud tarnished Pakistani military ruler Pervez Musharraf's certain victory in the presidential referendum as results were counted.
Partial returns carried on the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan says the general who took power in a coup in October 1999 has captured more than 95 percent of the vote in Tuesday's referendum.
In the largest city of Karachi, capital of Sindh province in the south, the early results showed Musharraf had won 215,789 votes with 3,275 against.
Critics have criticised the exercise as a farce with grave implications for parliamentary elections due in October, when General Musharraf has promised to revive genuine democracy.
