Complaint of one-sided view at Australian polling booth in East Timor

A complaint has been lodged that Australian voters in East Timor are getting a one sided political view when they arrive at the province's main polling booth.

Jesuit priest Father Frank Brennan has written to the Australian Mission in East Timor complaining about two large photographs of John Howard that he says adorn the outside wall of the Mission.

Father Brennan also claims an information booth at the Mission is only offering voting advice from the Liberal Party.

Father Brennan is demanding action to rectify what he says is a seeming lack of impartiality at the polling booth.

A spokeswoman for the Australian Electoral Commission says as long as political material is at least six metres away from the polling booths at the Mission, it can take no action on the matter.
