Taiwan welcomes admission of Taiwan and China to WTO
Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian has welcomed the admission of Taiwan and China to the World Trade Organization, saying it would help push for normalisation of economic relations between the two rivals. Mr Chen also urged China to work with the island based on his proposals for "friendly reconciliation, active cooperation and enduring peace" to benefit people on both sides. He says he believes the accession China to the WTO will help reforms and liberalisations on the mainland, and improve and upgrade lives of the Chinese people. Mr Chen says it will also help economic and trade normalisations between China and Taiwan, enabling them to seek closer exchanges and cooperation under the WTO framework.
