American warplanes resume bombing Osama bin Laden's caves
American warplanes are bombing the White Mountain range in eastern Afghanistan after fighters loyal to Osama bin Laden refused to surrender.
During talks with opposition Afghan forces, the mainly Arab militants demanded to be handed over to the United Nations in the presence of diplomats from their respective countries.
US officials say there are indications Osama bi Laden is in the region because a massive bomb caused satellite calls among al-Qaida members that confirm he and is still there. In another development, The United Nations special envoy to Afghanistan, Lakhdar Brahimi, says the country's interim leaders have no objection to the deployment of an international peacekeeping force. His spokesman Ahmed Fawzi says although no details of the size or makeup of the force have been discussed, there appears to be general acceptance.
Its up to the security council of the United Nations to decide what kind of force is going to be deployed here. yes we felt that everybody here in Kabul among the leadership in Kabul, were on board regarding the importance of the early deployment of a security force once the new interim administration is in place.
