India blames pakistan for assault on Indian parlaiment

India's Home Minister L.K. Advani has blamed Pakistan for sponsoring last week's suicide attack on parliament, but gave no indication of New Delhi's intended response.

In the government's first formal statement in parliamant on the events of December 13, Mr Advani says the attack is the most audacious and most alarming act of terrorism during the two decades-long history of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in India..

He confirmed that evidence collected since the attack, shows it was carried out jointly by two Pakistan-based militant groups -- Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad -- which he says are know to derive support from Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence agency.

All five suspected militant gunmen were killed in the assault on parliament, which left eight others dead, most of them security personnel.
