Prominent Chinese dissident writer dies

Prominent Chinese dissident writer Wang Ruowang, who was jailed by China's communist government and finally sent into exile, has died in New York City aged 83.

Wang remained defiant to the end, refusing a recent offer from China to let him back into the country.

The offer was conditional on him promising not to criticise the government or meet other dissidents but Wang refused.

Wang was persecuted by two successive Chinese regimes.
