US says it's involved in defusing south Asian tensions
United States President George W. Bush says his country is very involved in defusing tensions between Pakistan and India.
President Bush says the US will not appoint a special envoy to the region, but says Secretary of State Colin Powell has been in recent telephone contact with senior officials in both countries.
Tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad have increased following an attack last week on the Indian parliament that left 14 people dead.
India has withdrawn its high commissioner from Islamabad and cut rail and bus links, and Pakistan has expressed concern over reports of a build-up of troops along the two countries' border.
Mr Bush has told reporters in Washington that a flare-up in the region could create severe problems for all those involved in the fight against terror.
